Author J.K. Rowling has spoken out against an incident at a WNBA game where fans supporting Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham were allegedly harassed. The controversy reportedly stemmed from differing views on men's participation in women's sports.

Rowling, writing on X, described the behavior as "grotesque" and supported the young women who she stated were "peacefully protesting against the grotesque unfairness of men playing in women's sport." She added, "The only people who are 'f*cking insane' here are those making a mockery of fair sport for women and trying to bully girls like this into silence."

The incident occurred during a game between the Indiana Fever and the Seattle Storm in Seattle. According to independent journalist Brandi Kruse, who was present, two fans supporting Sophie Cunningham and women's rights were allegedly verbally harassed by a minority owner of the Storm, Celeste Keaton. Kruse told Fox News Digital that Keaton called the fans "f---ing insane."

The Seattle Storm organization has since suspended Keaton and issued an apology. "We are aware one of our co-owners made comments to two fans in attendance at last night's game. We apologize that this happened. Everyone who attends a Storm game deserves to feel welcome, and we remain committed to creating an inclusive environment where every fan is treated with respect," the team stated.

Additional footage reportedly showed a male fan also directing comments towards the women. Cunningham herself addressed the controversy, posting on social media, "I truly believe there is a safe space and love for EVERYBODY. Biological girls, biological boys, trans women, and trans men. Everyone is welcome at my table! You can disagree and still be kind."

Cunningham also commented on the alleged behavior of the Storm co-owner, stating, "Truly embarrassing of the co-owner. Unfortunately shows the type of leader she is."

The events have drawn broader commentary on the state of the WNBA, with critics pointing to this incident as an example of issues within the league. Sophie Cunningham has been a vocal advocate for the protection of women's sports. The dispute highlights ongoing discussions regarding gender and sports participation.
