JJ Redick Teases Luka Dončić on Offseason Conditioning
The Lakers coach playfully commented on the star guard's improved fitness.
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick recently offered a lighthearted jab at star guard Luka Dončić regarding his offseason conditioning. Redick noted Dončić's apparent commitment to fitness, suggesting it has him in peak physical form.
"He’s great physically. The guy worked his butt off all summer, on staying in shape. And actually ran this summer. Like, he actually did like sprints and stuff. Came into camp in fantastic shape," Redick said of Dončić, as reported by ESPN’s Anthony Slater. He added that the guard has been incrementally improving his rhythm in camp.
Dončić's weight and conditioning have been subjects of discussion throughout his career. However, Redick indicated that Dončić's approach this summer was intentional, focusing on rest and structured training rather than extensive live play. This strategy appears to be yielding positive results, as Dončić showcased his improved conditioning during the Lakers' preseason victory over the Sacramento Kings on Monday. He scored 21 points in just 16 minutes of play.
Redick expressed optimism about Dončić's ongoing development, stating, "For him, throughout this preseason, that’s sort of the goal… continuing to build that game shape, and continuing to build his offensive rhythm."
