Jimmy Kimmel made a guest appearance on Larry David's new HBO satire series, "Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America," on July 3. The show, executive produced by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, featured a segment that satirized President Donald Trump without explicitly naming him.
In the episode, Rob Reiner, in a posthumous role as George Washington, announced he would not seek a third term and suggested amending the Constitution to limit presidential power. David's character, in colonial attire, questioned what might happen if an "a–hole" or a "narcissistic p— who doesn’t follow the Constitution" were in office.
Reiner's Washington emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of power. David's character then warned about a president potentially attacking the free press. Kimmel's character entered the scene, responding sarcastically to the notion of a president challenging criticism by saying, "Come on, that could never happen."
"Are you suggesting that the president would taketh the time to challenge anyone who dare make fun of him, as if he were a big baby? I don’t see it," Kimmel's character added. David's character replied, "That’s what you think."
Kimmel has increased his liberal political commentary in recent years. Earlier this year, he made a joke about first lady Melania Trump that he clarified was intended as a jab at President Trump's age. President Trump has publicly called for ABC to fire Kimmel from his late-night show on multiple occasions.
