Jimmy Haslam, owner of the Cleveland Browns and Milwaukee Bucks, shared that his father expressed reservations about significant offseason trades involving long-tenured stars for both franchises. Haslam's father, who is 95 and a half years old, directly questioned the decisions after the teams dealt away Myles Garrett and Giannis Antetokounmpo within a month.
Haslam, who holds a 97 percent controlling stake in the Browns after an initial purchase in 2012, explained the trade of Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. The deal brought the Browns Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick. Garrett had played nine seasons with Cleveland, accumulating 412 tackles, 125.5 sacks, and 23 forced fumbles. "It was not an easy decision, but we’ve made it, and we’re moving on and excited about Jared and excited about those three draft picks," Haslam stated at Browns training camp.
Regarding the Bucks, Haslam possesses a 25 percent stake, acquired in April 2023. The team traded Antetokounmpo for Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 first-round pick swap, and a 2033 second-round pick. Haslam indicated at the Browns' training camp that the move was intended to inject youth into the Bucks roster and that he believed the return for the star player was substantial. Antetokounmpo spent his entire 13-year NBA career with Milwaukee, averaging 24.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.
