Late-night host Jimmy Fallon used the resignation of former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as an opportunity to poke fun at President Trump and stoke theories about his health. During his Thursday monologue, Fallon noted Leavitt's departure to "spend more time with her family," quipping that she likely sought "something way quieter – a baby" than the White House.
Fallon referenced reports that Trump was "caught off-guard" by Leavitt's decision, humorously suggesting Trump might blame "pool vandals" for her resignation, a nod to Trump's past unfounded claims. He also quipped that Trump was looking for a replacement "who can spin facts and numbers, so another good option is his doctor."
Fallon then impersonated Trump, exclaiming, "I'm 155 pounds!" This remark appeared to reference Trump's physical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in May, following which he stated on Truth Social that "Everything checked out PERFECTLY." This physical was the fourth of Trump's second term, occurring after years of him criticizing President Biden's perceived health concerns.
Speculation about Trump's health has been fueled by visible signs such as bruising on his hands and swelling in his legs. The White House attributed the bruising to regular Aspirin use and the leg swelling to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a condition described by the president's physician as "benign and common."
Fallon also recently targeted Senator Mitch McConnell's health. After McConnell's week-long hospitalization following a fall, Fallon joked that a photo of McConnell with his wife indicated his health was not "perfect" if "someone [is] hold[ing] you up when you're already sitting." McConnell's office stated the fall resulted in him being "briefly unconscious" and a "mild case" of pneumonia.
Earlier in the week, Fallon also satirized an incident where Trump reportedly hid in a catering cart to switch planes. The sketch featured a clip of Trump acting childishly during the transit, asking "Are we there yet?" and "Can I eat all these airplane meals?"
