Jimbo Fisher Expresses Desire to Return to Florida State
After being fired by Texas A&M, the former national championship-winning coach is reportedly interested in a Florida State reunion.
Jimbo Fisher, who led Florida State to a national championship in 2013, has expressed a desire to return to coaching and potentially reunite with the Seminoles program. Fisher, currently working as an analyst, is reportedly interested in returning to Tallahassee, where he previously coached for eight seasons.
Fisher's tenure at Florida State from 2010 to 2017 resulted in an 83-23 overall record and a 48-16 mark in conference play. Following his departure, the Seminoles have experienced a period of inconsistency. Since Fisher left, Florida State has posted a 48-47 record and has only achieved three seasons with at least six wins under coaches Willie Taggart and Mike Norvell. The team's last winning conference record came in 2023 when they went undefeated and won the ACC Championship.
The current season has started on a challenging note for Florida State. The team, with a 1-1 record in 2026, suffered a 27-24 home loss to No. 19 SMU in their season opener. This loss was compounded by a nearly two-hour delay due to a power outage at the stadium. SMU secured the victory with a late field goal.
Fisher spent six seasons with Texas A&M after leaving Florida State. During his time in College Station, he compiled a 45-25 record. His 2020 team reached the No. 4 spot in the AP rankings, the Aggies' highest ranking since 1993. In Fisher's final season with Texas A&M, the team finished with a 6-4 record.
Reports suggest that with current coach Mike Norvell facing increased pressure, the possibility of Fisher's return to Florida State is being discussed.
