Jim Nantz Appears to Injure Hand After Punching Football on Live TV

CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz appeared to injure his hand on live television while demonstrating a football technique with analyst J.J. Watt during the Buffalo Bills' victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. The unusual incident occurred as the two were discussing strategies players use against defenders attempting a "Peanut Punch" to dislodge the ball.

Watt explained how ball carriers secure the ball by locking their wrist and encouraged Nantz to attempt to punch it free. Nantz delivered a forceful punch, which elicited a surprised reaction from Watt. "I didn't think you were going to go that hard!" Watt exclaimed with a laugh. "That was so much harder than I thought you were going to go. But the ball stayed."

Following the demonstration, Nantz grimaced and began to massage his hand, joking that he felt like he had broken his wrist. As the broadcast continued, he was seen with his hand wrapped in ice. Neither Nantz nor Watt directly addressed the injury further on air.

Watt joined Nantz as his broadcast partner on CBS's top NFL team for the 2026 season. This move followed the departure of former quarterback Tony Romo from the booth after his arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated over the summer.
