Jim Carrey Marries Min Ah, Finds Quiet Happiness After Hollywood Career and Personal Turmoil

Actor Jim Carrey has married his longtime partner, Min Ah, in a small ceremony in Los Angeles. The wedding marks a quiet period for the star, who has largely stepped away from Hollywood to focus on his art and personal life.

Carrey and Min Ah, an actress and artist, first made their public appearance as a couple in February at the César Awards in Paris. This is Carrey's third marriage; he was previously married to actress Melissa Womer and his "Dumb and Dumber" co-star Lauren Holly.

The actor, who rose to international fame in the 1990s with films like "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Mask," and "Dumb and Dumber," has experienced significant personal challenges alongside his successful career. A period of intense public scrutiny followed the 2015 death of his on-off girlfriend Cathriona White, who died of a prescription drug overdose. Her estranged husband filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Carrey, alleging he provided White with the drugs that led to her suicide and that he had given her STDs. Carrey denied these claims, and a counter-lawsuit he filed alleged that White had attempted to blackmail him. The legal battles and the controversy surrounding White's death cast a shadow over Carrey's public image.

Carrey has also been vocal about his struggles with depression. He revealed in 2017 that he no longer experiences depression, stating, "when the rain comes, it rains, but it doesn’t stay. It doesn’t stay long enough to immerse me and drown me anymore." He has since spoken about finding peace and no longer drinking alcohol or taking drugs.

His career, which saw him become one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors and earn six Golden Globe nominations, also included notable roles in "The Truman Show," "Man on the Moon," and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." However, Carrey has become increasingly selective about his roles in recent years. In 2022, he mentioned considering retirement from acting, though he later returned for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," citing financial reasons.

Carrey's retreat from the spotlight has also been accompanied by his engagement with painting and fine arts. He has expressed a desire for a simpler life, focusing on his art and personal well-being away from the demands of the film industry. He paid tribute to Min Ah at the César Awards, calling her his "sublime companion."
