Jewelry Store Owner Fires on Thieves After Truck Smashes Through Front
Masked suspects fled empty-handed after the owner discharged a firearm during a daytime attempted robbery in Lynnwood, Washington.
Masked would-be thieves smashed a pickup truck through the front of a Washington jewelry store in broad daylight and stormed inside, only to be sent scrambling when the store owner opened fire, according to authorities and local reports.
The attempted robbery occurred shortly after 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday at Medina Jewelers in Lynnwood.
Surveillance video captured three vehicles circling the parking lot before a white Toyota Tacoma crashed through the storefront, shattering glass and causing employees to flee. Several masked suspects then entered the opening, with at least one appearing to carry an axe.
The store owner retrieved a gun and fired, prompting the group to flee the premises without any merchandise. It remains unclear if any of the suspects were struck by gunfire, police said.
“It was broad daylight and a pretty rare occurrence for us,” Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Joe Dickenson told FOX13 Seattle. Detectives are working to determine if the suspects were armed.
The incident caused alarm among witnesses and pedestrians in the vicinity. "You had several witnesses that were out and about, several pedestrians walking around; all of a sudden, a car crashing into a building and shots ringing out is cause for alarm,” Dickenson said.
The suspects escaped in a black BMW SUV and a silver Toyota or Infiniti sedan. The BMW reportedly struck a parked vehicle while fleeing and may have sustained damage to its front passenger side.
Lynnwood Police are asking for the public's assistance and are requesting anyone who recognizes the suspects or vehicles from the surveillance footage to submit tips to [email protected], referencing case number 2026-37986.
