Jets Wide Receiver Adonai Mitchell Out Against Lions With Finger Injury
The team's receiving corps is further depleted by Mitchell's absence, adding to existing injuries.
The Jets will be significantly short-handed at wide receiver for their upcoming game against the Lions, as Adonai Mitchell has been declared inactive due to a finger injury. Mitchell sustained the injury during practice on Thursday, and despite participating in a limited capacity on Friday with his right hand heavily wrapped, he will not play.
Mitchell's injury adds to the existing challenges faced by the Jets' receiving unit, with Omar Cooper Jr., Tim Patrick, and Arian Smith already on injured reserve. The team's active receiver group for the game will consist of Garrett Wilson, Isaiah Williams, Sterling Shepard, Jamaal Pritchett, and Malik McClain. Only Wilson and Williams were on the active roster in the previous week's game against the Packers.
McClain and Pritchett were signed to the active roster this week, while Shepard was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday. Both McClain and Pritchett are expected to contribute more on special teams than on offense.
The Jets may also need to increase the role of rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq, as fellow tight end Mason Taylor is also inactive for Sunday's game due to a thumb injury.
Mitchell has been a key contributor for the Jets this season, ranking second on the team with nine receptions for 123 yards.
In other roster news, cornerback Nahshon Wright, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason, is also inactive. Wright has not yet seen defensive playing time. However, rookie cornerback D’Angelo Ponds and edge rusher Joseph Ossai are active and are set to make their season debuts.
