Jets Suffer Crushing Overtime Loss to Packers, Hampered by 13 Penalties

The most impactful penalty occurred in overtime when Jets cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. was flagged for unnecessary roughness after a reception by Green Bay’s Chris Brooks. This penalty gave the Packers possession on the Jets' 22-yard line, a field position from which they quickly advanced and kicked the game-winning 26-yard field goal.

"It just can’t happen," said head coach Aaron Glenn regarding Brownlee's infraction. "We can’t let our emotions get the best of us in a situation like that because we have to make sure we do what’s right to try to go win the game. That was one of the decisions we didn’t make correctly."

Safety Andre Cisco acknowledged the impact of such penalties, stating, "As an aggressive player, there are going to be aggressive penalties at times. Obviously, it was untimely. But we trust him, and I don’t think we’ll harp on him too much."

However, Brownlee was not the only player whose actions contributed to the loss. Right guard Joe Tippmann lamented his own false start penalty in the third quarter that stalled a drive, saying, "Those are plays that you wish you had back, stuff that you’ve got to lock into the moment, make sure you’re playing in the moment and that you’re fully there."

Glenn noted that penalties were an issue for both teams, with Green Bay committing 14 penalties. Nevertheless, the Jets incurred 23 more penalty yards. "Next week, we have a number of things we have to fix. And those things I just talked about are some of them," Glenn added.
