Jets Rookie David Bailey Faces Setback With Lingering Groin Injury

New York Jets rookie David Bailey is dealing with a lingering groin injury that kept him from practicing on Wednesday, raising concerns about his status for the team's Week 8 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Bailey finished the Jets' 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday but reported discomfort on Monday. His absence from practice marks the latest worry for the Jets' defense, which has also seen other key players sidelined.

"I see [him] as seeing how the week goes," head coach Aaron Glenn said regarding Bailey's availability. The Jets drafted Bailey with the No. 2-overall pick, and he has emerged as a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season for the team. Through his first seven games, Bailey has recorded 5.5 sacks, nine quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, and seven tackles for loss. He earned Rookie of the Week honors after a three-sack performance in the team's Week 5 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The injury uncertainty extends to other members of the defensive line. T’Vondre Sweat also did not practice on Wednesday due to a knee issue, and Joseph Ossai missed the last two weeks with an ankle injury. Both Sweat and Ossai are considered week-to-week, according to Glenn. Bailey's injury adds another layer of concern for the defensive front as the Jets prepare for their next game at MetLife Stadium.
