New York Jets defensive lineman Kingsley Enagbare has expressed significant optimism about the future of rookie defensive end David Bailey, calling the No. 2 overall draft pick's potential "phenomenal."
During the team's first day of practice, Enagbare, who joined the Jets in free agency after four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, highlighted Bailey's all-around capabilities. "He's going to be phenomenal. He's going to have a long, long career," Enagbare said. "The sky's the limit for that dude. He can literally do it all. He can stop the run. He can rush the passer. Sky's the limit for him."
Enagbare brings to the Jets a perspective gained from consistent playoff appearances with Green Bay, a team that held a 37-30-1 record during his tenure, contrasting with the Jets' 22-46 record over the same period. He aims to impart this experience to the younger players on the defensive line.
"I know my room, we got a few younger guys, so trying to give the boys the insight that I got over the last four years," Enagbare stated. "I pretty much made the playoffs throughout my four years, so I have a decent amount of playoff experience. I know what it takes from Week 1 to Week 17 … how the playoff intensity changes and how to maintain your body, take care of your body, stuff like that."
He emphasized that the season's work begins early, stating, "It's a long season, and it pretty much starts now. It starts in OTAs, honestly."
Enagbare also projected a strong unit for the Jets' defensive line, emphasizing collective strength. "I told the guys today we're only going to be as good as our weakest link, meaning if our weakest link is a bad, bad MF, our group is going to be a bad MF and people's going to fear that," he said. "Iron sharpen iron. I think we're gonna have a good group."
