Jets Fans Demand Firing of Head Coach Aaron Glenn After Loss to Winless Dolphins

The New York Jets' disappointing 2026 season reached a new low on Sunday as the team suffered a 28-25 defeat to the Miami Dolphins, who entered the game winless. The loss, which dropped the Jets to a 2-5 record, has ignited fervent calls from fans for the immediate firing of head coach Aaron Glenn.

Fans expressed their anger throughout the game at MetLife Stadium, with boos frequently echoing as the Dolphins secured their first victory of the season. Miami established an early lead, outscoring the Jets 21-7 in the first half. Although the Jets' offense, led by quarterback Geno Smith's 287 passing yards and three touchdowns, mounted a second-half comeback, the defense's inability to stop Miami proved to be the team's undoing.

The Dolphins amassed 156 rushing yards and controlled the possession battle, while quarterback Malik Willis contributed two touchdown passes. Miami's success on fourth down, converting all three attempts, was also a critical factor in sealing their victory.

A particularly demoralizing moment for the Jets occurred at the end of the first half. With six seconds remaining, the Dolphins scored a touchdown after Willis scrambled in, a play that unfolded despite the Jets having timeouts available. Head coach Aaron Glenn's decision not to use these timeouts to potentially give his offense another possession drew sharp criticism.

ESPN host and noted Jets fan Mike Greenberg voiced his sentiment on social media, stating, "It's just a matter of when, not if, they fire the coach. They absolutely should." The sentiment was echoed by numerous fans on X, with one writing, "Dear New York Jets. Do not let Aaron Glenn in the building tomorrow. Loved him as a player, but he cannot coach his way out of a paper bag."

Glenn acknowledged the fans' frustration in his post-game comments but defended the team's direction. He also addressed the end-of-half decision, saying, "Maybe we should've called our timeouts to get it back, but at that point, we just felt like we were going to stop them and be able to get the ball back."

Some fans also directed their anger toward owner Woody Johnson, with podcaster Kyle Becker writing on X, "Woody Johnson has held #Jets fans hostage for too long. This #Jets will never be an actual NFL team until he sells it. Time for [Johnson to] do the right thing and put the team up for sale." The calls for the owner to sell the team were prevalent in the hours following the defeat.

Glenn, a former fan-favorite cornerback for the Jets, is now facing intense scrutiny for the team's defensive struggles this season. Despite some prior defensive successes, Sunday's performance has led many to question his coaching capabilities.

The Jets will look to rebound next week when they host the Las Vegas Raiders at MetLife Stadium.
