Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Clarifies Halftime Interview Remarks
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn denied any confusion regarding his statements during a CBS halftime interview, explaining his comments about possession.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn addressed the perception of confusion following his comments during a CBS halftime interview, stating he was clear in his remarks about possession. During halftime of the Jets' loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, Glenn appeared to suggest his offense would start the second half with the ball.
"I told our guys, ‘We’re moving the ball, [but] the thing is, we just have to finish,’" Glenn said at the time. "Our guys will be ready to go. The good thing is we get the ball. We get a chance to go move it and finish."
However, in a press conference Monday morning, the second-year head coach clarified that his statement was focused on the offense's ability to sustain drives. "No, I actually talked about just the offense," Glenn explained. "I think they were talking about sustaining drives, and my conversation with them is when the offense gets the ball back, man, we want to be able to sustain a drive and go score. Then when the defense gets back on, we want to make sure we stop them and get the ball back to our offense. That’s what I was talking about when it comes to that. The conversation was talking about the offense at that time."
The Jets did go on to score a touchdown on their first offensive drive of the second half, cutting the Patriots' lead to 17-10 after stopping them on downs.
