A jet skier who disappeared off the Long Beach coast Monday morning was found alive after an overnight search, authorities reported.

The man, identified as Paul Anthony Carbullido, 53, was located approximately 2.5 miles offshore from the Seal Beach Pier by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew. He was suffering from hypothermia but was conscious and talking when rescued, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The rescue concluded a frantic search that began Sunday night around 10 p.m. when authorities received reports of two jet skiers missing near Alamitos Bay Landing. Carbullido and a woman in her 40s had become separated from a larger group they were riding with.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, fishermen reported hearing a woman screaming for help. Lifeguards responded and found the woman clinging to rocks near the Long Beach Breakwater. She was pulled to safety, taken to a local hospital, and reported to be in stable condition.

However, her male companion was still missing. Authorities located an abandoned jet ski floating beyond the breakwater at approximately 1:15 a.m. Monday, with a second jet ski found about 30 minutes later. Crews continued searching through the night and into the morning.

Around 10:30 a.m. Monday, the Coast Guard helicopter spotted Carbullido floating offshore. A rescue swimmer was deployed, and he was pulled from the water shortly after 11 a.m. He was subsequently transported to a hospital.

Details regarding the specific circumstances that led to the separation of the jet skiers from their group have not yet been released by authorities.
