Jessie James Decker Credits Family, Faith for 'Secret Sauce' Cookbook
The country singer's new cookbook, co-authored with her mother and sister, emphasizes the importance of shared meals and traditions.
Country singer Jessie James Decker has released "The Secret Sauce: A Family Cookbook Seasoned with Love," a collection of recipes and traditions drawn from her family's Southern, Sicilian, and Cajun heritage. Co-written with her mother, Karen Parker, and sister, Sydney Rae Bass, the cookbook aims to capture the essence of family gatherings and passed-down culinary practices.
Decker stated that food is deeply intertwined with her family's Catholic faith and traditions. She credits her mother with instilling the importance of prayer during both challenging and joyous times, emphasizing trust in a greater plan. These values extend to her home life with her husband, former NFL player Eric Decker, and their four children.
One of the family's cherished traditions is gathering for dinner without electronic devices, allowing everyone to connect and share their day. Decker described this time as her favorite, often asking each child a question, sometimes a lighthearted one, to encourage conversation. She finds joy and pride in preparing meals for her family, viewing cooking as a significant expression of love.
"The secret sauce is just the love and joy that you put into cooking," Decker said. "And it's not just about the food. Once you put that heart and soul and you serve it up, everyone feels it."
The cookbook includes recipes for weeknight meals, game-day dishes, and holiday celebrations. Specific family favorites mentioned include seafood gumbo, enjoyed by her daughter Vivi and youngest son Denver, pasta dishes for sons Eric and Forrest, and chicken pot pie for her husband. Salads and balsamic green beans are also regular features on their table.
Game days often feature chili, barbecue meatballs, dips, and occasionally wings, according to Decker. She noted that these shared experiences around food are what truly make the "secret sauce" special, extending beyond the ingredients themselves.
