Jessie J Returns to Social Media After Breast Cancer Reconstruction Surgery
The singer shared updates from her recovery, including a humorous take on her hospital stay and moments with her son.
Jessie J has returned to Instagram after a six-week social media hiatus to undergo her second breast cancer reconstruction surgery. The singer, 38, posted updates on Sunday, showing herself recovering in a hospital gown and joking about her new appearance.
"My Dad can't make the joke 'She'd make a great flat mate' anymore," she quipped in a caption alongside a photo from the hospital. Another image showed her giving a thumbs-up, stating she was "healing."
The return to social media comes after the singer announced in May that she was cancer-free, a year after her initial diagnosis. Despite being in remission, she recently underwent a second reconstruction procedure.
In September, Jessie J announced her social media break, citing a need to recharge and heal following an "extremely busy" two years. During this period, she navigated releasing an album, moving countries, her cancer diagnosis and recovery, touring, a breakup, and raising her young son, Sky, who is three years old. She expressed that the demanding schedule had taken a toll and that she needed time to focus on her mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
"Now's the time. Work has slowed down. So healing speeds up please," she wrote in her announcement. "To finally have my second cancer reconstruction surgery, to recharge, heal, to rest, to process, to love on myself and my boy, to water the next chapter of my life and most importantly be present and really live."
She also shared glimpses of her life with Sky and inspirational quotes in her recent post. In a separate message, she posted a picture holding her son's hand, writing, "No place I would rather be. Bye social media, be back when I want to be."
Jessie J first revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in June of the previous year, undergoing surgery later that month. Her partner at the time, Chanan Safir Colman, was by her side throughout her treatment. In August of that year, she cancelled tour dates to undergo further cancer treatment.
She had previously stated that going public with her diagnosis was a way to process the experience and show solidarity with others facing similar challenges, noting that the diagnosis had given her "incredible perspective."
