Jessica Chastain's New Horror Film 'Other Mommy' Hits Theaters, Streaming Options Explored

The new Jessica Chastain horror film, Other Mommy, is now playing in movie theaters nationwide. Directed by Rob Savage and written by Nathan Elston, the film is an adaptation of Josh Malerman's 2024 novel, Incidents Around the House. Chastain stars in a dual role as Ursula, a mother trying to protect her daughter Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark) from an evil, supernatural entity that assumes Ursula's form, referred to by Bela as "Other Mommy."

The cast also includes Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen. James Wan, known for producing the Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring franchises, produced Other Mommy through Atomic Monster, a division of Blumhouse Productions.

Other Mommy is exclusively available in theaters starting Friday, October 9. Tickets and showtimes can be found via Fandango. The film is not yet available to stream or for digital purchase.

Universal Pictures is distributing Other Mommy, meaning it is not a Netflix original and is unlikely to appear on the platform soon. Typically, Universal films are first released on the NBCUniversal streaming service, Peacock, following their theatrical runs.

While the exact release dates for digital purchase and streaming have not been announced, Other Mommy is expected to become available for digital rental and purchase approximately one month after its theatrical debut. It will then subsequently stream on Peacock. Based on the release patterns of previous Universal films, Other Mommy could arrive on Peacock around December 2026 or early 2027, roughly four months after its theatrical opening.

Following its exclusive window on Peacock, the film is slated to become available on Amazon Prime Video. A deal between Universal and Amazon dictates that Universal movies stream on Peacock for the first four months of their "Pay 1 window," then move to Amazon Prime Video for the subsequent four months, before returning to Peacock for another four months. This arrangement suggests that Other Mommy could be available on Prime Video around June 2027.

Peacock offers two subscription tiers: Premium, which includes ads, and Premium Plus, which is ad-free. The monthly cost for Peacock Premium is $12.99, and for Premium Plus, it is $19.99. Annual plans are also available, offering 12 months for the price of 10, costing $129.99 with ads or $199.99 without ads. Peacock Premium Plus can also be accessed through Amazon Prime Video Channels, which offers a seven-day free trial.
