Jessica Alves Splits From German Engineer Boyfriend, Eyes Comeback
Alves revealed the breakup was due to differing views on commitment and freedom, leading to her stepping away from her social media income and returning to London.
Jessica Alves, 43, has announced her separation from her German engineer boyfriend, Matthias, after a relationship that led her to step back from the public eye and her substantial social media income. Alves told the Daily Mail that the split occurred because Matthias prioritized independence over a committed future, a divergence from her desire for marriage and stability.
Alves and Matthias began their relationship in late 2024, meeting in person in January 2025, and it quickly became serious. She described feeling content for the first time, traveling extensively with Matthias and becoming close to his and her families. This commitment led Alves to consciously reduce her television, press, and public appearances, believing that love and building a future together were paramount.
However, during a trip to Sicily, the couple's differing perspectives on their relationship came to a head. Alves recounted that Matthias expressed a need for freedom and independence, while she sought commitment and security. She explained that while Matthias stated he loved her, he could not offer the marriage and future she desired.
This personal shift coincided with significant challenges to Alves's professional life. Her Instagram account, which had accumulated approximately seven million followers and was a primary source of income through brand deals, television work, and collaborations, was repeatedly compromised. The loss of this platform occurred precisely when she had voluntarily reduced her public presence to focus on her relationship.
"My professional world was collapsing while my personal world was becoming increasingly complicated," Alves told the Daily Mail. She added that instead of ending the relationship, she clung to it more tightly, thinking, "At least I have love. At least I have Matthias."
Following the breakup, Alves has moved back to London full-time and is planning a professional comeback. She is rebuilding her presence with a new Instagram account, @jessicaalvesuk_00, and is working on a new book. Alves stated, "I created a career for myself once and I know I can do it again. I don't regret anything, but I will never prioritise a relationship over myself again."
