Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham has indicated that the government would consider acquiring the Les Mielles golf course site for public ownership. Farnham stated his desire for the land to come into public hands, suggesting a potential opportunity to create an area of outstanding natural beauty.

In an interview with BBC Jersey, Farnham expressed keenness to discuss the matter with the National Trust. "There's a great opportunity, if you look at the Simon Sand area along to Les Mielles, to create an area of outstanding natural beauty," he said. "That's something we can certainly take a look at."

Farnham has previously supported public acquisition of land, notably arranging the purchase of Cafe Romany at Greve de Lecq to protect the surrounding area. The Les Mielles golf course site has a guide price of £9.95 million. Farnham suggested several avenues for funding such a purchase, including public funds, partnerships with the National Trust, and contributions from wealthy residents within the 21E community.

The National Trust of Jersey has not yet commented on the proposal. Campaigners advocate for the site's purchase by the government with the aim of returning it to nature.
