Jerry Jones Expresses Disappointment After Cowboys' Upset Loss

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed significant disappointment following his team's unexpected 24-16 prime time loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday. The defeat was punctuated by a critical late-game interception thrown by quarterback Dak Prescott.

Witnessing his team fall to a previously winless squad, led by an undrafted rookie quarterback, visibly frustrated Jones. After Prescott's second interception of the game, which occurred late in the fourth quarter as the Cowboys attempted a comeback, Jones was seen slamming his hand on a table in his suite. He described the upset loss as "very disappointing."

"We had a chance maybe to pull it out at the end and that didn’t work for us," Jones told reporters after the game. "This is very disappointing, and I know it’s disappointing to our home crowd — it is to me."

The Cowboys were trailing 24-10 with just over eight minutes remaining when they mounted a 99-yard drive, culminating in a touchdown reception. However, their attempt to close the gap further was thwarted when Prescott's pass intended for tight end Jake Ferguson was deflected and intercepted by Buccaneers linebacker Alex Anzalone with 1:30 left on the clock. This interception effectively sealed the victory for Tampa Bay.

Despite possessing all three timeouts, the Cowboys were unable to regain possession. Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving secured a crucial first down on the subsequent drive, ending Dallas's comeback hopes.

Irving was a key contributor to the Buccaneers' win, rushing for 165 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, and adding a touchdown reception. His performance was pivotal for a Tampa Bay team that started undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels at quarterback.

The loss dropped the Cowboys to a 2-3 record. Jones acknowledged the team's current standing was not what they had anticipated. "This isn’t fold the tents here. We are 2-3. We didn’t expect to be 2-3," Jones stated. "We didn’t expect this. ... We didn’t expect this Tampa team to come in here 0-4, either."

The Cowboys are scheduled to play the Green Bay Packers next Sunday night in another prime time game.
