Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has voiced his support for Tony Romo, the former Cowboys quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst, following Romo's arrest on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence. CBS placed Romo on leave after the July 31 incident in Wisconsin.
Jones, who spoke with Romo after the arrest, expressed his enduring admiration for the analyst. "I love him. I love what he's about. I love his character. I love his love of sport. And he's a very, very unique talent," Jones told KDFW Fox 4. He emphasized Romo's capacity to handle adversity, stating, "Do you think Tony Romo knows how to get up when he gets knocked down? He had a life of that. And absolutely, that's one of his greatest attributes, is that he can handle adversity."
"This is something that he will work through," Jones added. "Obviously, I'm a big fan of his, big fan of his family, and let me tell you right now, he's as real as he sounds. He feels every down time, he feels every up time."
Romo, who played his entire NFL career (2003-16) with the Cowboys before joining CBS in 2017, is scheduled to appear in court on September 21. He is not expected to be on air "until further notice," according to CBS. The network has stated that former Texans star J.J. Watt will fill in for Romo alongside Jim Nantz. Romo still has four years and $72 million remaining on his contract with CBS, which he signed in 2020.
