Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy has publicly addressed a viral video that he claims was manipulated to create a false narrative about his preference for the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback position. Jeudy stated on X, formerly Twitter, that the clip was edited to push a specific storyline.
"Yall cut the clip perfectly for that narrative," Jeudy wrote in a post on Sunday. He further elaborated, stating, "I don’t speak on decisions that aren’t mine to make. I support my teammates/Brothers, I do my job, and control what I can control. Let’s stop creating narratives that aren’t there for likes and clicks. I bet this won’t go viral because it’s too positive/real for y’all."
The video in question appeared to show Jeudy flashing four fingers, which some interpreted as a signal of support for Deshaun Watson, who wears number 4. The clip was presented in a way that suggested it indicated a preference over second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Quarterback Competition Continues
The Browns are in the midst of a quarterback competition between Watson and Sanders. Head coach Todd Monken indicated in June that he had not yet decided on a starter, despite aiming to have one named before training camp. "I’m not there yet," Monken said. "I just don’t see it after the way Shedeur has played and the way Deshaun’s played. They’ve both played well enough to earn the right to compete to start."
Watson and Sanders shared first-team repetitions throughout the offseason programs, and the competition is expected to continue as the team opens training camp. Watson is entering the final year of his contract and is working back from surgery on his right Achilles, which caused him to miss the entire 2025 season. Sanders started seven games in his rookie year and was a Pro Bowl alternate.
Monken has expressed approval of both quarterbacks' performances during the offseason, noting Sanders' development and Watson's displayed athleticism. The Browns are scheduled to begin training camp on Tuesday.
