Jenny Slatten's ALS Battle: Reality Star Faces Worsening Health
Four months after her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis diagnosis, Jenny Slatten is reportedly growing weaker daily, with speech impairment and fatigue impacting her quality of life.
Nine months after revealing her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis, "90 Day Fiancé" star Jenny Slatten is reportedly experiencing a daily decline in her health. Her friend, Serma Minincleri, shared an update on Slatten's condition, stating that the reality television personality is becoming "weaker by the day."
ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to a loss of muscle control and paralysis over time. Slatten's condition has already progressed to the point where she has lost the ability to speak clearly, according to Minincleri.
Slatten is currently undergoing treatment with two medications, edaravone and riluzole, which are intended to slow the progression of the disease. However, these medications have reportedly left her feeling "very tired."
Minincleri launched a GoFundMe campaign in July to help fund Slatten's medical treatments. Since her diagnosis, Slatten has consulted with five neurologists and speech therapists. She is also scheduled to begin acupuncture and explore other holistic services that may help improve mobility and reduce fatigue.
Slatten's husband, Sumit Singh, has become her primary caregiver. Minincleri noted that Singh now speaks on behalf of his wife, describing him as performing his caregiving duties "a great job each day."
Slatten and Singh, who first appeared on "90 Day Fiancé" in season one, have been featured in several subsequent seasons of the franchise, including "90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?" and "90 Day: The Last Resort."
In August, Singh shared that Slatten's symptoms were noticeably progressing, particularly in her speech. He expressed a desire for Slatten to receive treatment in America, hoping for a better support system and potential medical advancements.
"I always keep my hopes high, and I feel that America might have something better for Jenny and she can get at least a better support system," Singh said at the time. He is reportedly facing challenges in obtaining a visa to travel with Slatten, which complicates their plans for her medical care.
