Jenny McCarthy Claims Katie Holmes Underwent Personality Shift After Marrying Tom Cruise

Jenny McCarthy has claimed that Katie Holmes experienced a noticeable personality shift after marrying Tom Cruise, describing her as looking like "a deer in headlights" during their union. McCarthy shared these observations on her podcast, where she discussed her past friendship with the couple and their 2006 wedding in Italy.

McCarthy recounted that while Holmes seemed like herself at the wedding ceremony, a change became apparent as the marriage progressed. "During the wedding part, she still seemed like Katie, but into the marriage it seemed there was a shift in her," McCarthy alleged. She characterized the dynamic between Holmes and Cruise as "polar opposite" from her perspective at the time.

McCarthy also described her shock at a lengthy speech given by Scientology leader David Miscavige, who served as Cruise's best man. "It was 30 minutes long, about how Tom and Katie are now going to be the most important couple in the world," she said, adding that Holmes' family appeared bewildered and Holmes herself attempted to smile through the ordeal. McCarthy also recalled an unsettling encounter at the rehearsal dinner when she tried to hold baby Suri Cruise, stating that the room fell silent and she felt as though she received "the Scientology stare." She described the moment as feeling like she was "in the belly of the beast" and that she had "never been so scared in my life."

McCarthy also indicated that she and her former partner Jim Carrey had been targets of recruitment efforts by Scientology. While she described Cruise as a "very nice human being," she also felt he seemed "programmed."

Holmes joined Scientology upon marrying Cruise and later left the organization after their 2012 divorce. Reports from 2016 suggested Holmes feared losing Suri to Scientology, with the presence of Scientology members in their home reportedly contributing to the end of her marriage. Ron Miscavige, father of Scientology leader David Miscavige, previously told the Daily Mail that a "toxic" policy of "disconnection" exists within the organization and that members moving in with the couple "didn't sit so well with Katie."

Earlier this year, Suri Cruise began using the surname Noelle, taking her mother's middle name. Holmes has most recently been linked to artist Jason Bard Yarmosky, while Cruise was reportedly linked to actress Ana de Armas until their reported split in October of last year.
