Jennifer Lopez Reflects on 'Empty Nester' Status and Skincare Routines
The singer and actress shared a makeup-free video discussing her children's transition to college and the importance of personal rituals.
Jennifer Lopez, 57, recently shared a makeup-free video via her JLo Beauty brand, discussing a significant life transition: her twins, Max and Oskar Muñiz, are now in college. The multihyphenate reflected on her skincare and workout routines as anchors during this period of becoming an "empty nester."
"I was just about to start my skincare routine, and I was thinking about routines because my kids are going away to college," Lopez said in the Instagram reel. "And the travel was crazy, and it wreaks havoc on your skin. But those routines really keep you going. I think when they go away, and I'm sitting here being an empty nester, and crying, and thinking about them and looking at baby pictures of them... these routines are the things that are going to keep me kind of sane."
Lopez, who was raised in the Bronx, emphasized working out and her skincare regimen as essential daily emotional anchors. She welcomed twins Max and Oskar with ex-husband Marc Anthony in 2008. The proud parent expressed excitement for her children as they embark on this new chapter but acknowledged it's also a new beginning for her.
"It's a scary time, it's a transitional time, it's a new beginning in a lot of ways," she stated, offering advice to viewers to "keep your routines going, stay hydrated, stay happy, stay joyful, stay productive."

Lopez also previously discussed her experience raising her twins as a single parent. In an appearance on the SmartLess podcast in June, she noted having "very little help" after her divorce from Anthony in 2014, expressing pride in independently guiding her children through high school and preparing them for college.
"I was like, 'You did that s*** all by yourself. That's great.' Like, 'You had very little help,' you know?" she said, reflecting on her accomplishments as a mother. "Now, I can really look at my life, appreciate it for what it is and what I've created for myself and be really happy."
Lopez launched her JLo Beauty brand on January 1, 2021. The brand has since received accolades, including the Beauty Innovation Award for Eye Mask Product of the Year in November 2025. The award-winning eye mask is described as being "powered by advanced tetrapeptides + hyaluronic acid" and aims to "define and depuff" eyes in 15 minutes.
