Jennifer Lopez and Director Robert Zemeckis Reportedly Clash Over Netflix Film Edit
Sources claim the star is taking over the editing process for the upcoming thriller 'The Last Mrs. Parrish,' leading to friction with the filmmaker.
Jennifer Lopez is reportedly at odds with director Robert Zemeckis over the editing of their upcoming Netflix thriller, "The Last Mrs. Parrish." Sources tell Page Six that Lopez has been actively involved in the editing room, attempting to reshape the film in a way that Zemeckis' vision does not align with.
One source described the situation as Lopez "fanc[ying] herself a filmmaker" and trying to "fix" the movie, which is reportedly testing poorly. The insider compared the situation to one involving Blake Lively, who previously took control of the edit for her film "It Ends With Us."
However, a different source close to the production offered a more sympathetic view, stating that Lopez is "just trying to salvage the movie" and that she has "taken over" the editing process to improve its prospects. Another source indicated that Lopez has indeed wrested control from Zemeckis during the editing phase.
Lopez and Zemeckis were observed working on the cut together last week, an unusual arrangement for a director and star, and are scheduled to meet again next week. The film, which has a reported budget of $100 million, began shooting in September 2025 and is slated for a 2027 release.
Despite the reported clashes, Netflix issued a statement to Page Six asserting that the film tested well, especially with Lopez's fans. The streaming service, along with Lopez and Zemeckis, denied the reports of discord, stating in a joint statement, "Any suggestion that the filmmakers are not working in unison is without merit."
"The Last Mrs. Parrish" is based on a 2021 novel about a con artist targeting a wealthy couple. The plot centers on the con artist's attempts to befriend the wife and seduce the husband to become the titular "next Mrs. Parrish," only to discover the wife's complex nature.
The alleged behind-the-scenes friction emerges as Peter Rice begins his tenure as Netflix's new content chief, a transition that has also seen changes in film leadership at the streamer.
