Jennifer Lawrence Confronts Studio Over On-Set Nudity Concerns
The actress discusses an instance where unauthorized crew members viewed her nude scenes, emphasizing the need to protect younger actors.
Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she confronted movie executives after witnessing unauthorized crew members observing her perform nude scenes. The actress shared this experience during an appearance on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, emphasizing her belief in setting firm boundaries to protect performers, particularly younger ones.
"There was an instance on set where crew members who weren’t approved when I was doing nudity were on set, and I came down hard on it," Lawrence stated. She explained her reasoning by saying, "Purely because if we’re not setting that kind of principle at the level of which we’re doing it right now, you know, then what on earth is going to happen to an 18-year-old?"
Lawrence, an established figure in the film industry, expressed a sense of responsibility to speak up in such situations. She reflected on the dilemma a younger actor might face: "If she shows up and there’s people that aren’t approved, she’s going to be in a position like, do I say something and get a reputation for being difficult? Or do I just let these people that I’m not comfortable seeing me naked see me naked?" She concluded, "So it was important to me to explain to the people why that was not OK."
The specific project where this incident occurred was not disclosed by Lawrence. Her first on-screen nude scene was in the 2018 film "Red Sparrow."
This is not the first time Lawrence has spoken out about issues related to privacy and her image. In 2014, private nude photographs of the actress were leaked online after a hacker accessed Apple's iCloud storage. Describing the violation, Lawrence said, "When I first found out it was happening, my security reached out to me. It was happening minute-to-minute — it was almost like a ransom situation where they were releasing new ones every hour or so." She added at the time, "And, I don’t know, I feel like I got gang-banged by the f—-ng planet — like, there’s not one person in the world that is not capable of seeing these intimate photos of me." Lawrence characterized the experience as "a really impossible thing to process."
