Jenna Ortega Tries Tea for First Time, Sparks British Outrage Online
The 'Wednesday' star's admission during an interview in London drew amused and incredulous reactions from social media users.
Jenna Ortega, the 24-year-old star of the hit Netflix series "Wednesday," has admitted to never having tried a cup of tea before, a statement that drew a wave of humorous outrage from British social media users.
Ortega made the confession on Monday while enjoying traditional English Breakfast tea for the first time at Claridge's in Mayfair, London. She was accompanied by her "Klara and the Sun" co-star Amy Adams. The actresses were speaking with Capital Breakfast's Jordan North about their upcoming film.
During the interview, North offered the actresses tea, to which Ortega inquired, "What is it?" A surprised North explained, "You have it with milk... you've never had it before?" Adams, also present, described tea as "almost like an iced tea but hot and a little stronger." Ortega, declining milk as she stated she "doesn't like creamy things," proceeded to taste the beverage, while also commenting on Adams' tea appearing "weak."
The exchange quickly gained traction online, with viewers expressing disbelief. Comments on social media included "They've not had … tea?" and "That tea looks WEAK."
The film "Klara and the Sun," based on Kazuo Ishiguro's novel, sees Ortega portraying a robot girl designed to combat loneliness. The story follows Klara as she is purchased as a companion for a young girl named Josie and navigates a future where genetic engineering has created social stratification.
"Klara and the Sun" premiered at the BFI London Film Festival and has received a mixed critical reception, holding a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 12 reviews. Several publications, including The Guardian, The Times, and The Telegraph, have given the film one-star reviews. The film was released in UK cinemas on October 23.
