Rapper and singer Jelly Roll has confessed to overeating in the wake of filing for divorce from his estranged wife, Alyssa 'Bunnie XO' DeFord, on May 18. The artist, who has documented a significant weight loss journey, weighing 250 pounds after previously reaching 550 pounds, described the recent setback in a YouTube vlog.
"I've been overeating the last three or four days and I was feeling myself stress eat," Jelly Roll, born Jason Bradley DeFord, stated. He detailed an incident where, after attending a show with favored catering, he consumed four dairy-free skillet cookies, something he usually avoids due to his history of addiction. "The addict in me came out," he explained, noting that this indulgence was followed by a visit to a taco truck for a "peanut butter fluff." He estimated consuming an additional 2,000 calories, likening the experience to "the taste of blood [for a shark]," and anticipates it will take a week to recover.
Jelly Roll, a three-time Grammy winner, has previously spoken about his struggles with addiction and how his past offenses, including numerous jailings starting at age 13 for marijuana possession and other charges, have shaped his approach to recovery. He emphasizes that for him, moderation is not an option: "People are like, 'Oh, you can have one for a cheat meal.' I was like, 'You can have one cheat meal! I can't.' Because it might be a five-day food bender for me."
He adheres to a rule of not allowing himself two consecutive days of overeating, aiming to offer himself "grace" on difficult days. Approximately one month before announcing his divorce, Jelly Roll had revealed a slight weight gain of 12 pounds, bringing his total to 276.2 pounds. He is currently working with a fitness coach with a goal of running the New York City Marathon on November 1 and aims to lose an additional 30 pounds.
The couple, who legally separated on May 9 after nearly a decade of marriage, are planning to amicably co-parent a future child. They recently hired a surrogate after experiencing the loss of four embryos during attempts to conceive via in vitro fertilization.
Jelly Roll is also preparing for his upcoming role as an opening act on Post Malone's 85-date Big A** Stadium Tour, which begins this Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. He previously welcomed two children from prior relationships: Bailee Ann DeFord with ex Felicia Beckwith and Noah Buddy DeFord with ex Melisa Ann Cowell.
