Jeana Keough, an alumna of "The Real Housewives of Orange County," has completed her radiation treatment for tongue cancer. However, her daughter Kara Bosworth shared in a GoFundMe update that Keough's battle with the disease is far from over and that she is anticipating a difficult phase of treatment.
According to Bosworth, the coming two weeks are expected to be physically the most challenging for Keough as the combined effects of chemotherapy and radiation weaken her body. Keough, 70, is experiencing radiation burns on her neck, which are being managed with medicated cream, and is enduring significant pain. She is currently using a feeding tube, a measure that has helped her stabilize her weight, which Bosworth described as a positive development. Efforts are underway to find an effective treatment for the nausea and vomiting Keough is experiencing.
Keough has had moments of progress, including being able to take a sip of water. This is considered a crucial step to maintain her swallowing function, although the pain associated with it is severe, and she has declined narcotics. Bosworth has asked for prayers for Keough's chemotherapy completion, the cessation of her need for a feeding tube, pain relief, and the continued efficacy of her immunotherapy.
Keough's journey with cancer began when she noticed a sore on her tongue last year. Initially attributed by her dentist to her teeth, further investigation led to a diagnosis. She had previously faced financial barriers to obtaining a biopsy due to insurance issues. After being convinced by her daughter to pursue further medical evaluation, a doctor quickly identified the sore as cancerous. Keough has since undergone multiple surgeries, including the removal of lymph nodes. Her treatment was temporarily interrupted by a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) clot and an infection in her leg. The reality star also experienced a loss of her ability to speak.
As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe page established to support Keough's medical expenses has raised over $74,000.
