Vice President JD Vance announced the birth of his fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, who was born Sunday morning. Both Usha Vance, the Vice President's wife, and the newborn are reported to be "happy and healthy," according to a statement Vance shared on social media. He also noted that their other children are "overjoyed to meet their little brother" and expressed gratitude to the military doctors and staff at Walter Reed Medical Center for their care.
The birth marks a significant historical milestone, as Alec Neel Vance is the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years, according to the Associated Press. Vance and his wife Usha have three other children: Ewan, 9; Vivek, 6; and Mirabel, 4.
Usha Vance, born Usha Chilukuri, is the daughter of immigrants from Andhra Pradesh, India. Her father was a mechanical engineer and her mother a molecular biologist. She met JD Vance while they were both students at Yale Law School in 2010, where they participated in a discussion group focused on "social decline in white America."
