JD Vance Faces Criticism for Vulgar Joke Responding to Economy Concerns

Senator JD Vance responded to a young Republican woman's question about the prohibitive cost of housing by making a vulgar joke about Senator Jon Husted's physique. The incident occurred during a Fox News town hall event in Fort Worth, Texas, which aired on Thursday evening, five days before the midterm elections.

The question came from Kate White, vice president of the Turning Point USA chapter at Texas Christian University. She articulated the economic struggle faced by her generation, stating that young people are being encouraged to marry and start families early, yet homeownership remains unattainable. White cited the national average home price of over $415,000 as a significant barrier.

In his response, Vance thanked White for her question before making a remark about the number of times Jon Husted's posterior had been mentioned during the event. He stated that he had only been asked one question about Husted's backside all evening, and that question came from the host, Jesse Watters. Watters responded with laughter and claimed it was a topic on everyone's mind, to which Vance suggested Watters should run for Senate in Texas as a Democrat.

The joke referenced by Vance is part of a running commentary by former President Donald Trump, who has been making similar remarks about Husted's physical appearance at rallies. Trump's comments about Husted's backside reportedly began at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio.
