Jaylen Brown, recently traded from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers, announced that the team's rebuilding initiative, famously known as "The Process," is now active. Brown stated during a livestream on Thursday that the era associated with "The Process," which defined the team's strategy in the past decade, is "back the f–k on."
"We’ve been shutting the process down for the past — I don’t know how many years. The process been over, but now the process is back, motherf–ker," Brown said, referencing the team's previous direction.
Brown, a five-time All-Star, also discussed his personal history with the 76ers franchise, noting that his decade-long tenure with the Celtics involved a strong rivalry. "For the past 10 years, I’ve been programmed to hate Philadelphia," he admitted. "From the history of the rivalry to the playoff battles, all of the above with. I’ve been programmed to be like, ‘man, f–k the process.’ But now I have to reverse-engineer — that’s the part that’s going to take some time."
The trade sent Brown to the 76ers in exchange for Paul George, along with two first-round and two second-round draft picks. Brown expressed that he is "looking forward" to playing in Philadelphia and does not anticipate any special treatment from the city's fanbase. "Philadelphia is a strong city, a tough-nosed city, so I’m looking forward to that," he stated. "I don’t want no special treatment, I don’t want no handouts, no extra privilege. Not to say that y’all were going to give me that anyway, but I plan on earning my respect one day at a time by putting in the work."
During the livestream, Brown received a call from his new teammate V.J. Edgecombe. Brown, 29, is coming off his most statistically productive NBA season, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 47.7% from the field. This performance earned him his second career All-NBA selection.
