Jayden Daniels Suffers Elbow Injury, Raising Concerns for Commanders
Quarterback Jayden Daniels' left elbow injury during a game against the Dallas Cowboys could prove to be a season-defining setback for the Washington Commanders.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels sustained a left elbow injury during the second quarter of the team's game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The injury occurred on the final play of the first half when Daniels appeared to hyperextend his elbow as he tripped and attempted to brace himself. He was subsequently carted off the field.
This marks a significant concern for the Commanders, as Daniels suffered a similar left elbow dislocation in a 2025 game against the Seattle Seahawks. According to OutKick medical expert Dr. David Chao, who reviewed the injury via video, the joint appears to have dislocated, which could indicate a recurrence due to ligament laxity after the initial injury healed. Chao noted that joints tend to dislocate more easily a second time.
Daniels was replaced by backup quarterback Marcus Mariota for the remainder of the game. If this injury proves to be as serious as it appeared, it could significantly impact the Commanders' season, especially so early in its second week.
In November 2025, Daniels dislocated his left elbow while scrambling against Seattle. At that time, an MRI revealed no fracture or ligament damage, and he avoided surgery and the injured reserve list. He returned to play in Week 14 against Minnesota but aggravated the injury, missing the subsequent game and ultimately being shut down for the final three weeks of the season to focus on recovery for the 2026 season. The current injury suggests this recovery may be jeopardized.
