Jay-Z's concert at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night was delayed by approximately five hours due to a significant security breach, leaving thousands of ticket-holding fans frustrated.
Chaos erupted when hundreds of individuals without tickets reportedly rushed multiple stadium gates, overwhelming security checkpoints and bypassing screening. This led to a temporary stadium lockdown, with all entrances closed to prevent further unauthorized access and ensure the safety of attendees already inside. Police sources indicated that the breach involved large groups pushing past ticket holders.
The incident caused considerable distress among fans, many of whom took to social media to express their anger and concern. Some reported people fainting and asking for medical attention due to the prolonged wait and chaotic conditions. Fans voiced their frustration over the extended delay, with many needing to attend work the following day.
Jay-Z, 56, eventually took the stage and apologized for the significant delay, explaining that the doors were closed to prevent a dangerous crowd crush. "I appreciate your patience. We gonna have a good time. I got some s**t for you, I promise you," he told the audience. "There was like ten thousand people outside and they closed all the doors ‘cuz [people] rushed the door and I didn’t want to start music and have people get trampled. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience."
Celebrities, including Fabolous, Charlamagne Tha God, and A$AP Rocky, were also reportedly among those stuck outside trying to gain entry.
The New York Yankees, Roc Nation, and Live Nation issued a joint statement acknowledging the event. They stated that hundreds of individuals without tickets "stormed over peaceful ticketholders, and in some cases, breached security." The statement further commended the NYPD and stadium security personnel for their response in prioritizing attendee welfare during the incident. Gates were eventually reopened cautiously under the guidance of the NYPD.
