Ayub Qassim, the last known person to see missing teenager Jay Slater alive, has married Paige Crisp, who was recently convicted of involvement in a £13 million cannabis smuggling operation. Qassim, 33, who has prior drug offense convictions, wed Crisp, 24, in a traditional Islamic ceremony. The wedding is believed to have taken place last year in Thailand, the same country from which Crisp's drug smuggling ring operated.

Crisp was convicted last week alongside ten other British nationals for attempting to smuggle 460 kilograms of cannabis into the UK. Border Force intercepted the drugs at Birmingham Airport. The gang had used 22 suitcases, each containing a thin layer of clothing over vacuum-packed cannabis, and paid extra baggage fees. The suitcases were also equipped with Apple AirTag trackers linked to a single account. Crisp, a cleaner and mother of one, was found guilty of attempting to import Class B drugs with intent to evade prohibition.

The court heard that the group traveled from Thailand to the UK via Charles De Gaulle Airport in France. Suspicion was raised when four members of the group arrived in Birmingham from Paris with the large, heavy suitcases.

Qassim, originally from east London, has a history of drug-related offenses. He was previously jailed for nine years and nine months in 2015 for masterminding an operation to import heroin and crack cocaine into Cardiff. He was described as the ringleader of a London-based crime gang.

Qassim and Crisp have shared their marital life on social media, with Crisp adopting the handle 'Mrs QuackQuack,' referencing Qassim's nickname.

Jay Slater, an apprentice bricklayer from Lancashire, disappeared in Tenerife in June 2024. Qassim was with Slater at his rented holiday cottage shortly before the 19-year-old vanished. Qassim previously stated that Slater had come to his Airbnb alive and left alive. During an inquest in July 2025, Qassim testified that he had invited Slater back to his cottage after a rave. He said he offered Slater a place to sleep on the sofa before going to his own bed. Qassim stated that Slater left the cottage later, saying he was going to catch a bus. Qassim advised him against it, offering to drive him back later, but Slater indicated his friends were waiting. Qassim went back to sleep, assuming Slater was at the bus stop.

The inquest into Jay Slater's death ruled that he died from accidental head injuries and trauma after falling 20 to 25 meters down a steep ravine in Tenerife's Rural de Teno national park.

Crisp's mother declined to comment on her daughter's wedding, stating it was "nobody's business" and that the situation was "very upsetting." Neighbors of Crisp in Malvern offered unflattering descriptions, with one calling her "horrible" and "vile."
