Javier Bardem Criticized for Supporting Petition to Remove Pink as UNICEF Ambassador

Actor Javier Bardem has drawn criticism for promoting a Change.org petition that calls for the removal of singer Pink as a UNICEF ambassador. Bardem shared multiple posts on his Instagram Stories urging followers to sign the petition, titled "Remove Pink as a UNICEF Ambassador."

The petition argues that Pink's comments are "incompatible with the role of a UNICEF Ambassador" and that such ambassadors should prioritize "peace, understanding, and humanitarian values above personal biases." It urges UNICEF to "take decisive action and remove Pink as an ambassador," asserting the organization must remain committed to all children.

Bardem's actions prompted a strong reaction from figures like Michael Rapaport, who accused the actor of bullying a "Proud Jewish Woman" by using a petition instead of direct confrontation. Rapaport, in an Instagram post, called Bardem a "tattletale" and questioned why he would pursue such an action against Pink.

Selma Blair also commented, questioning Bardem's actions and suggesting he focus on his own life. "Why would anyone want this great removed from unicef for human, humble and loving words? This makes no sense," Blair wrote.

Social media users also weighed in, with some questioning Bardem's motives and stating "the left is eating itself." Others supported the petition's stance, with one commenter arguing that no ambassador can ignore "the conditions in Palestine" and remain fit for service.

The controversy stems from Pink's response to a pro-Palestinian performance by Macklemore during an Ed Sheeran concert on September 4. Macklemore performed his song "Hind's Hall," a track supporting Palestinians, and repeatedly chanted "Free Palestine" with related imagery displayed behind him.

Pink initially reposted criticism of the performance and later issued a statement explaining her position. She stated she was "born a Jew" and has never hidden it. Pink clarified her views, saying that while Hamas is a terrorist organization and Palestinians deserve a future honoring their humanity, "Protecting innocent life comes first, everywhere, and nobody should ever celebrate the death of a child." She added that she has worked with UNICEF for years and met children "on both sides of that fence."

Pink explained her repost was a reaction to Macklemore himself, recalling a past incident where he allegedly used antisemitic imagery. She stated that Macklemore's performance and his subsequent words scared her and those she loved, and she did not want to be told her fear was propaganda or that she condoned genocide.

Macklemore has continued to advocate for his message, stating that "Wanting all humans to be treated equal should never be controversial." He was later removed from Ed Sheeran's tour after venues indicated they would not host him.
