Jason Reynolds Ventures into Adult Fiction with 'Father, Father'
The acclaimed children's author will release his first novel for adults in June.
Jason Reynolds, a prominent voice in children's literature for over a decade, is set to release his first novel for adults. The book, titled "Father, Father," is scheduled for publication in June by Scribner.
"Father, Father" centers on two brothers embarking on a cross-country road trip. During their journey, they grapple with contrasting memories and emotions regarding their recently deceased father. Reynolds described the novel as an "intimate tale about journeying toward each other while also confronting the complicated truth that human beings can be both awful and graceful in the same life."
He further explained that while his previous works for children often featured flawed adult characters struggling with love, "Father, Father" places these adult figures at the forefront. "In this story, the adults are front and center," he stated.
Reynolds, 42, has garnered acclaim for award-winning books such as "All American Boys," "Look Both Ways," and "Long Way Down." He served as the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature for the Library of Congress from 2020 to 2022.
His foray into adult fiction follows a path taken by other well-known children's authors, including J.K. Rowling, Judy Blume, and John Green, whose adult novel "Hollywood, Ending" was released this past fall.
