Jason Kelce playfully confronted his ESPN colleague Marcus Spears on air for not attending his brother Travis Kelce's wedding to Taylor Swift. While appearing on ESPN's "Monday Night Countdown," Kelce noted that Spears was invited to the July 3 wedding but did not show up.
"There was another person on the desk invited, but he did no-show us," Kelce said during the broadcast, turning to face Spears. "Still don't really know why."
Spears, a former NFL defensive end, responded with a laugh, attributing his absence to a family obligation with his son. "Family obligation with my son, who you know he got a lot of stuff going on," Spears explained.
Scott Van Pelt, who also attended the wedding, encouraged Kelce to press the issue further. Spears then offered an apology.
Kelce described the wedding, officiated by Adam Sandler, as a unique gathering of diverse attendees, including figures from the sports and entertainment worlds, as well as childhood friends. He highlighted the festive atmosphere, with numerous guests singing and dancing, calling the event "insane."
Van Pelt echoed Kelce's sentiment, calling the gathering unlike any he had witnessed before, with guests from all backgrounds expressing excitement to see various personalities. Both analysts adhered to the couple's request for a no-phone policy during the event.
During the discussion, Van Pelt mentioned interacting with Brad Pitt, whom he jokingly referred to as his "new best friend." Pat McAfee, another attendee, chimed in that Pitt seemed to be everyone's best friend.
McAfee also recalled seeing Patrick Mahomes dancing enthusiastically at the wedding, leading him to speculate that Mahomes might return to play earlier than expected. Kelce humorously confirmed McAfee's observation, noting the apparent unity of the Chiefs team present at the event.
Following the wedding festivities, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Denver Broncos 31-10 in their "Monday Night Football" game. Travis Kelce recorded three receptions for 71 yards, including a 59-yard gain. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes contributed two touchdowns and one interception, along with a 15-yard rushing touchdown.
