Jason Kelce Apologizes for 'We' Slip-Up During Monday Night Football Broadcast
The former Eagles center momentarily forgot he was an analyst, not a player, during halftime commentary.
ESPN analyst Jason Kelce issued an apology to viewers after an on-air slip-up during the broadcast of Monday Night Football. Kelce, a legendary former center for the Philadelphia Eagles, was covering his old team's Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears when he referred to the Eagles as 'we' during his halftime analysis.
"It's 10-7. I feel pretty good going into the half," Kelce said during the broadcast. "We played really well offensively. We had opportunities. We shot ourselves in the foot, but we've moved the ball. We've ran the ball well. Jalen Hurts is throwing the ball well."
Kelce's use of "we" was quickly pointed out by his ESPN colleague Pat McAfee, a former NFL punter. "A lot of we talk out of Jason for Philly," McAfee quipped.
Kelce immediately apologized for the mistake, asking, "Sorry Bears fans! Did I say we?"
This marks Kelce's third season as an analyst for ESPN following his retirement from professional football at the end of the 2023 season. He spent his entire 13-year NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he became a beloved figure and won a Super Bowl in 2018. The incident highlights the transition analysts face when moving from active playing careers to broadcasting, where maintaining objectivity is paramount.
