Jared Leto sold a sprawling Los Angeles mansion, once utilized as a base for the U.S. Air Force, for $12 million earlier this year. The 54-year-old actor finalized the real estate deal in May on the 14,649-square-foot property located in Laurel Canyon.
Leto purchased the estate in 2015 for $5 million, marking a profit of more than $7 million from the recent sale. The property sits on 1.4 acres and includes six bedrooms and five bathrooms.
Unique features of the home include a sound stage, which Leto converted into a studio for his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. The property also boasts three 35-millimeter screening rooms and temperature-controlled film vaults. The estate's historical significance includes its past use for training films for the Army and newsreels for the Air Force, featuring actors like Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart, and Gregory Peck.
According to a 2017 profile, the property also contained concrete blast walls four feet thick, a shelter, and an air-traffic control tower. Leto previously commented on the property's unusual history, noting various rumors surrounding its past use, including alleged film shoots for the moon landing and secret laboratories.
Leto also made headlines earlier in the summer following the release of a BBC documentary that included allegations of sexual misconduct from four women. Leto has denied all such claims.
