Resurfaced footage from a 2016 interview reveals actor Jared Leto admitted to sending used condoms and adult toys to his "Suicide Squad" co-stars as part of his method acting for the role of the Joker.
Leto told E! News at the time that he had sent these items to "everybody" in the cast, explaining that it was his way of "creating a dynamic" and "an element of surprise, spontaneity," and to "break down any walls." He described the Joker as a character who "doesn’t really respect things like personal space or boundaries."
His "Suicide Squad" co-stars had varied reactions to the unconventional gifts. Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn, stated she was not entirely shocked by the items, feeling she already understood the Joker's persona. Will Smith, who portrayed Deadshot, noted that Leto had gone "full Joker" and that it "really set the tone" for the character, adding that Leto was "dead serious." Smith also remarked that Leto's actions "really jarred the rest of us."
The resurfaced comments come as four women have accused Leto of sexual misconduct when they were teenagers. These new allegations were detailed in a BBC documentary titled "Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret." Leto has previously denied similar accusations made by nine women in June 2025. In a statement on Wednesday, Leto told Page Six that the new claims are "absolutely and categorically false" and that he has "never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life."
