Four women have accused actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct, with the alleged offenses occurring when the accusers were teenagers. In total, 10 women have shared their experiences with the BBC, with nine speaking publicly for the first time.

One woman alleges she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom at age 17. Another claims Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19 and had been left alone with him in a hotel room. A third accuser stated she engaged in underage sex with Leto in California at age 17, which would constitute statutory rape. She reported that Leto dismissed a conversation about the age of consent being 18 in that state.

The fourth woman described a pattern of grooming, alleging that Leto, then in his 30s and 40s, abused his celebrity status through repeated sexually explicit phone calls when she was 16. She also stated that on at least one occasion, he suggested they have sex. This woman was later sent a non-disclosure agreement, which the BBC has seen, but she refused to sign.

Four additional women reported receiving strange and often sexually explicit phone calls from Leto when they were younger. Another woman recounted an incident at age 14 where Leto, after making a lewd comment about her chest during an autograph signing, allegedly instructed a security guard to take her backstage at a music festival. The girl's mother confronted Leto, but he allegedly repeated the comment.

The encounters described by the women took place between 2002 and 2016, when Leto was in his 30s and 40s. He is now 54. The BBC has corroborated aspects of several accounts through friends and family members who were informed of the encounters at the time, and in some instances, through supporting pictures and messages.

Two former band members told the BBC documentary, "Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret," that staff felt uncomfortable with Leto's interactions with teenage girls, including inviting them backstage or to recording locations. "I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big," one former employee stated.

Despite repeated attempts by the BBC to contact Jared Leto for comment, he has not responded to the allegations.
