Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have been house hunting in Malibu, California, a move that coincides with Kushner's younger brother, Joshua, finalizing a $12.5 billion purchase of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team with former Disney CEO Bob Iger.
The couple was recently observed touring high-end properties in the coastal community, according to reports. Their presence in Malibu was noted during the same week Joshua Kushner's acquisition of the NBA franchise was announced.
Jared Kushner and his brother, Joshua, have a history of shared business ventures. In 2014, they co-founded Cadre, a financial platform for commercial real estate investment that was acquired in 2024. They also jointly owned a real estate entity known as JK2.
Malibu has become an increasingly popular area for wealthy individuals in finance and technology, alongside its traditional celebrity residents. Joshua Kushner and his wife, supermodel Karlie Kloss, purchased a Malibu property known as the Wave House for $29.5 million in 2024.
Prior to this, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump had been residing in Miami, Florida, after purchasing a property on the exclusive Indian Creek island in 2020. The island, often referred to as the "Billionaire's Bunker," is home to notable figures including Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.
Joshua Kushner, through his venture capital firm Thrive Capital, is set to become a co-owner of the Lakers alongside Iger. Iger described the deal as rapidly put together, stating that an opportunity arose to purchase a stake from Mark Walter, who has reportedly been under federal investigation regarding business transactions. The speed of the transaction was attributed to the franchise's value and iconic status.
A representative for Jared and Ivanka Kushner did not comment on their house-hunting activities. It remains unclear what role, if any, Jared Kushner might play in the new Lakers ownership group, though reports suggest the couple may attend games in the upcoming season.
