Janice Dean Slams Megyn Kelly for 'Mean Girl' Comments on Christina Applegate's MS Misdiagnosis
Former Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean calls out Megyn Kelly for her public criticism of Christina Applegate's openness about her multiple sclerosis journey.
Former Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean has voiced her strong disapproval of Megyn Kelly's recent remarks about Christina Applegate's experience with multiple sclerosis, calling Kelly a "mean girl" and accusing her of using her platform to disparage others. Dean, who has lived with multiple sclerosis for 23 years, stated that she has grown tired of Kelly's pattern of "putting people down" and attacking women.
Kelly's comments, made on her podcast, targeted Applegate after the actress revealed she had been misdiagnosed with MS. Kelly suggested Applegate was exaggerating her condition, saying on her SiriusXM show, "She’s crying now because I guess she no longer gets to be the face of this disease, and as she says, she’s back to ‘square one.’ She’s made like a cottage industry of talking about her MS."
In response to Kelly's remarks, Dean took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her dismay. "Her comments about [Applegate] are disgusting," Dean wrote, lamenting the decline of her past friendship with Kelly. Dean further elaborated to Page Six, calling Kelly's commentary "so heartless for a woman misdiagnosed and doesn’t know where to turn."
Dean highlighted the challenges of living with multiple sclerosis, describing it as a "very misunderstood disease" for which there is no cure. She noted its debilitating effects, stating, "It saps you of everything when you’re not feeling well. It took my job away from me."
Dean expressed gratitude for public figures like Applegate who share their health struggles, emphasizing the vulnerability involved. "It’s the loneliest place you can be – to hear [Applegate] cry and have Megyn Kelly use that against her is disgusting," Dean said.
Megyn Kelly has not publicly responded to Dean's criticism or the backlash. However, Eric Bolling, a former Fox News colleague of both women, publicly condemned Dean's comments on X, calling them "f--king disgraceful" and reminding Dean of Kelly's past support for her career. Dean, in turn, questioned Bolling's own past at Fox News, referencing his departure in 2017 following a probe into alleged misconduct, which he denied.
Dean speculated that Kelly's critical stance might stem from her perceived isolation, suggesting that Kelly's life in Connecticut and limited social interactions contribute to her aggressive public commentary. Dean stated her intention is to raise awareness for MS, not to engage in public disputes.
Dean, who has recently faced hospitalizations, indicated she would share more about her experiences when her health permits. She reiterated her desire to avoid a "fight in the gutter" with Kelly but remains committed to advocating for those with MS.
