Jane Fonda's Former Hollywood Hills Home Lists for $1.99 Million

A Hollywood Hills residence once occupied by actress and activist Jane Fonda has been listed for $1.99 million. The gated, five-bedroom Mediterranean Revival-style villa, located at 2001 Holly Hill Terrace, was built in 1924.

According to the listing, Fonda resided in the home during her marriage to French film director Roger Vadim, from 1965 to 1973. She also lived there with her second husband, political activist and politician Tom Hayden, whom she married shortly after her divorce from Vadim was finalized. LA city planning documents confirm her residency with Hayden at this address.

During her time at the property, which she rented, Fonda was reportedly placed under surveillance by the CIA due to her anti-Vietnam War activism. CIA files declassified in 2018 indicated that Fonda's name and address were among 50 tracked by the agency in 1971. The CIA engaged in intercepting and opening mail sent from the Soviet Union to American citizens within the U.S. from the 1950s until 1973.

The house is situated in Whitley Heights, a historic residential neighborhood known for its Italian hillside village aesthetic, developed by H.J. Whitley. The area was once home to numerous Old Hollywood figures, including Rudolph Valentino, Bette Davis, and William Faulkner.

The 4,241-square-foot home features a formal foyer with a grand staircase and a two-story veranda added in 1941. It includes two entrances, one through a two-car garage with steps leading to a pool and terraced gardens with mature fruit trees.

The home features treetop and canyon views.

On the main level, a living room with a fireplace connects to a home office. The floor plan also includes a formal dining room, an eat-in chef’s kitchen, and a library that opens onto a patio with canyon views. Hardwood floors and high ceilings are present throughout the interior.

The primary bedroom suite is located upstairs and offers a sitting room, a private patio with canyon and treetop vistas, and a spa-like bathroom. Outdoor amenities include a pool and a summer kitchen with an outdoor grill, suitable for entertaining.

The living room, with a fireplace, is delightful.

A separate guest suite on the lower level contains its own entrance, laundry facilities, and a full kitchen.

The property was owned for 41 years by Kathleen Whyte, daughter of the late Hollywood character actors Bryan Clark and Jo Deodato Clark. The Clarks purchased the home for $234,180 in 1985. It was previously listed for $2.79 million in 2024.
