Jane Doe Fights to Remain at Cornell Amid Allegations of Gang Rape and On-Campus Harassment

A Cornell University student, referred to as Jane Doe, is reportedly making a difficult effort to continue her education at the Ivy League institution following allegations of gang rape and subsequent distressing incidents. Doe had reportedly moved hundreds of miles from her family to pursue her studies at Cornell.

Doe alleges in a civil lawsuit filed in New York Supreme Court that she was plied with alcohol, pressured to take drugs, and repeatedly sexually assaulted over several hours at the Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024. The lawsuit claims that a Snapchat group was created, which included an image of Doe with one of the alleged perpetrators. According to reports, one individual involved in the group allegedly asked, "Shop still open?" shortly after the photograph was shared. The footage of the room where Doe alleges she was assaulted reportedly shows trash littered around and a metal bedframe without a mattress.

Many of the accused individuals have denied wrongdoing, and no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the allegations. The lawsuit filed by Doe has ignited a broader national conversation regarding Greek life and the prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses.

Despite the alleged traumatic events and ongoing incidents, Doe has reportedly expressed a desire to remain at Cornell and complete her degree. Her struggle to maintain her academic pursuits highlights the profound impact of alleged sexual assault on a student's life and educational trajectory.
