Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has achieved a new milestone, qualifying as a pilot after a challenging year of training.

Oliver, 51, expressed his pride and exhilaration on Instagram, describing the process as one of the most difficult yet rewarding experiences he has undertaken. "It's certainly been one of the hardest, most wonderful and inspiring things I have ever done!" he wrote. "It has challenged me in so many ways and stretched me as a person."

The culinary star credited his wife, Jools, for inspiring his pursuit of aviation. She gifted him a discovery flight for his birthday, which ignited his passion for flying. "Since my ❤️ @joolsoliver got me my first discovery flight as a birthday present I've fallen deeply in love with aviation and after a year of training I finally passed," Oliver stated.

Oliver acknowledged the significant undertaking, which included passing nine exams for his Private Pilot License (PPL). He highlighted that the exams were particularly daunting due to his dyslexia, but he found solutions by using digital files of study materials with text-to-speech software. He thanked various aviation organizations and individuals for their support throughout his training, including Mick Pitcher, Blondie, Mike and Carol at Andrewsfield Aviation, Chef Tony and the team at Norwich Aviation Centre, and the teams at Conington Aviation, Air Cornwall, Morning Star Flight Academy, Pooleys Aviation Academy, and Linda Wheeler Groundschool.

"At 50 I feel so invigorated to take on something so challenging, and although the exams were hard, I did it," Oliver shared. He added, "I'm buzzing I'm on cloud nine, inspired, proud of myself and so grateful to have met so many wonderful people along the way. Now the learning really starts."

Oliver and Jools Oliver, a model, author, and designer, celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in late June. They married in 2000 and have five children. The couple renewed their wedding vows in the Maldives in 2023.
